Membership Committee

MISSION

The Membership Committee’s goal is to increase National and Section membership.  The committee is charged with encouraging individuals, especially civil engineers, to become affiliated with ASCE and the Boston Section.  Additionally, the committee is charged with encouraging current members to retain their membership.

ACTIVITIES

In order to achieve its goal, the Membership Committee typically meets once a month, or as needed to perform the committee's functions. The committee encourages the membership of college students, recent college graduates, Affiliate Members, non-subscribing ASCE members who reside within the Section area, ASCE members who have chosen not to renew their membership (delinquent status) and civil engineers within the district who are non-ASCE members. The committee does so by:

  • Establishing and implementing initiatives to foster new members and retain current members.
  • Preparing a periodic "New Member Update" for BSCESNews with names of new members.
  • Advising the Board of Government on issues pertaining to membership.

In addition, committee members may be assigned to attend scheduled BSCES meetings to distribute membership literature.  At these events, membership materials are typically placed on the registration table.
