Congratulations to the 2016 Future City New England Regional Champions: The Farmington Valley American Muslim Center - Team Members: Daniyal Athar, Ehsan Ahmad, Zuizz Saeed - Teacher: Urooj Ahmad - Mentor: Faiza Athar
The Future City Competition is a project‐based learning experience where student teams, led by an educator and volunteer mentor, spend four months developing a virtual city (using SimCity), researching and designing a solution to a city wide issue (this year’s challenge—Public Spaces—asks students to include in their future city a distributed network of innovative, multi-use public spaces that serves the city’s diverse population), and building a scale model of their city using recycled material. In January, teams present their vision to a panel of volunteer judges. After the competition is over, student participants are not only prepared to be citizens of today’s complex and technical world, they are poised to become the drivers of tomorrow. Please visit futurecity.org/new-england for more information or contact Olivia Richards at FutureCity.Chair@BSCES.org if you are interested in getting involved with the Future City Competition.
