BSCES strives to introduce engineering to kids in its true form. Through its various outreach programs, BSCES emphasizes the creative, hands-on, real life aspects of engineering. BSCES hosts contests and provides mentors to expose kids to the actual world of engineering at a pre-collegiate level. These programs are designed to show kids how engineers impact the world every day and how their ideas, even at a young age, have the potential to change the world. Engineers work hard every day to identify existing problems and creatively develop efficient long term solutions for them.
Civil Engineering, the oldest form of engineering, deals with the community-building aspect of engineering: bettering neighborhoods by creating well-organized transportation systems, developing durable infrastructure, and ensuring a clean, healthy environment to live in. BSCES, through activities led by real, practicing engineers, strives to communicate not only the numerous responsibilities of engineers, but also the ingenuity, creativity, and realism required to fulfill these responsibilities.
