Germaine and Hatem Named 2022 BSCES Honorary Members
At the 173rd BSCES Annual Awards Dinner on June 21, 2022, the BSCES Board of Government was pleased to present the Section's highest award, BSCES Honorary Membership, to John Germaine, PhD, who is a research professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tufts School of Engineering and David Hatem, PC, who is partner, chair of professional practices at Donovan Hatem LLP. Brief descriptions of why these two exceptional individuals were selected to receive this honor are presented below.
John Germaine, PhD, Tufts University
John was selected to receive a 2022 BSCES Honorary Member Award for his esteemed career as an educator, researcher and leader in experimental methods in geotechnical analysis. His relevant accomplishments include:
- Research professor with the Tufts University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering who has spent 35 years teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses
- Established the Tufts Advanced Geosystems Laboratory
- Supervised over 100 masters/doctorate/doctorate reader research students
David Hatem, PC, Donovan Hatem LLP
David received a 2022 BSCES Honorary Member Award for his esteemed career as a lawyer and author, and for his commitment to educating the next generation of engineers in matters related to risk management. His relevant accomplishments include:
- Provided legal advice to design and construction management professionals on major Boston-area construction including the MWRA Boston Harbor Cleanup Project, the Massachusetts Highway Department’s Route 3 Design-Build Project, the MBTA’s Greenbush Project, and The Central Artery/Tunnel Project
- Has taught college courses on legal issues in professional practice for over 20 years.
- Selected by his peers every year since 1990 for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the Field of Construction Law and Professional Malpractice
