The ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute’s (EWRI’s) mission is to “provide for the technical, educational, and professional needs of its members, and to serve the public in the use, conservation, and protection of natural resources and in the enhancement of human well-being.” The EWRI Boston Chapter group meets regularly, typically on the third Thursday of each month, to discuss industry-related topics and coordinate events that are of interest to the environmental and water resources engineering community.
The EWRI Boston Chapter is holding various technical and social events this year to better promulgate professional knowledge and provide networking opportunities with your peers. The latest technical webinar on “Green Infrastructure Stormwater Strategies: Shaping the Cities of the Future” occurred on December 9, 2025, and it had a great attendance and promulgated an interesting discussion. Our next EWRI Boston Chapter webinar in May will be focused on the critical intersection between environmental justice, resilience planning, and water resource management, highlighting how these fields collectively influence public health outcomes, climate preparedness, and long term community resilience. Please stay tuned for the actual webinar date and additional details.
The 2026 John R. Freeman Lecture, “AI for Global Flood Forecasting: From Research to Operations and the Future of Early Warnings for All” will be held on April 7, 2026 at the Cabral Center at Northeastern University. Our speaker will be Grey Nearing, PhD. Dr. Nearing leads several of Google Research’s efforts to engage with global governance organizations in building public-private partnerships to support initiatives such as the UN’s Early Warnings for All (EW4A). The 2026 John R. Freeman Lecture will examine open questions about the future role of artificial Intelligence (AI), hydrological sciences, civil engineering, and global governance communities in building a more resilient and prepared world.
More information about all upcoming BSCES events can be found on the website.
