The Department of Public Works (DPW) Engineering Division currently has an opening for a full time Assistant Town Engineer. The Assistant Town Engineer is responsible for the management and implementation of the Engineering Program and performs highly responsible engineering functions that are complex and technical in nature.
Reporting to the Town Engineer, the Assistant Town Engineer assists in the development and implementation of all of the DPW’s engineering components, exercising considerable judgement and discretion in accomplishing these objectives, and provides direction, supervision and guidance to the Engineering Division Staff. The incumbent in this position plans, designs, lays out and estimates public works and utility system construction projects; coordinates and directs land survey work, including the development and review of land plans, taking and easement plans, street acceptance and Town plans; oversees the Street Permit Program; and supervises Engineering personnel. The incumbent also represents the Town Engineer in engineering matters and acts as the Town Engineer in his/her absence. The Assistant Town Engineer works closely with all Town departments, elected boards and committees, Town Counsel, federal and state regulatory agencies and private engineers and is on call at all times.
Requirements include a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field, registration as a Professional Engineer or Land Surveyor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, five years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in the civil engineering field, including experience in a government environment and excellent written and oral communication skills. Also required are excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, computer-aided design, and civil engineering software programs and a valid driver’s license. An M.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or related field and certification as a Massachusetts Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO) is preferred.
The anticipated hiring range is $76,240 - $116,780 with an excellent benefit package.
