In December 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finalized a major revision to its Lead and Copper Rule (LCR), which hasn’t been updated in nearly 30 years. The Lead and Copper Rule Revision (LCRR) is meant to provide protection for children and communities from risks related to lead exposure.
Under the LCRR, a community must prepare a lead service line inventory and a replacement plan by October 2024. To help water utilities prepare for the new rule changes, EPA published guidance in August 2022 for preparing and maintaining a lead service line inventory for communities. The presentation will go over how to best prepare an inventory, some possible challenges, and what you can do to be prepare for compliance with the rule changes.
