The Interstate 495 (I-495) at Interstate 90 (I-90) interchange in Massachusetts is one of the state’s busiest interchanges, in need of critical geometric, safety, and operational improvements to enhance safety and mobility for travelers. Reconstructing the interchange while navigating complex environmental and regulatory requirements requires an integrated approach to project delivery, leveraging strong transportation engineering with sound environmental capabilities. 

In addition to major interchange design, the project elements include 16 structures; accelerated bridge construction; traffic, utility, drainage, and highway engineering; public outreach and coordination; MBTA and freight rail coordination; as well as extensive wetland restoration, mitigation, and monitoring to comply with the environmental permits. 

Presenters will include members of the Barletta team and members of the VHB design team. After the presentation, there will be a guided tour of the project site, where attendees will see the construction progress to date. Please note that proper PPE consisting of a hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, and boots will be required.

There will be a networking social hour to follow the tour at the nearby Owen O’Leary’s restaurant. Appetizers will be served and are included in the registration fee.

Please note that there is a 30-person capacity for this event due to project office and site constraints.

All attendees are required to sign a site tour liability waiver in advance of the tour and return it to bsces@engineers.org.
