Mission
The mission of the History, Heritage & Library Committee is to prepare and submit nomination papers for the designation of Massachusetts sites as National Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks, and the nomination of sites to be Massachusetts Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks.
In 2002 the Library Committee was merged into the History and Heritage Committee (Library Committee established by Board of Government action on September 17, 1990 – For past history description, see page 122 of BSCES Journal, Volume 65, No. 4, January 1979.) The long-term purpose of the Library Committee is to assist in establishing a TEC library that is not intended to compete with local public libraries, but that should contain information to foster interest in Civil Engineering as a profession. This may include a collection on achievements in Civil Engineering, historical books to document the evolution of Civil Engineering, rotating displays of local engineering excellence awards and models of major projects, a computerized database of resources or even to act as a clearing house for major engineering publications.
Activity
Meetings are held when specific occasions arise.
- The chairperson is responsible for all arrangements for dedication ceremonies. The chairperson keeps the membership advised of the committee’s work through liaison with the Board of Government and notices in the newsletter. They request, gather and research suggestions for landmark nominations.
- Establish library needs, specific attainable goals and a time frame upon which to work toward implementation. This committee also maintains close coordination with individuals planning a Career Resource Center, also to be housed at TEC, and the TEC Web site committee.
