The BSCES Sustainability in Civil Engineering Awards honor projects by Massachusetts civil engineering teams that exemplify sustainability and resilience principles championed by ASCE and the BSCES Committee on Sustainability. Winning projects creatively integrate the five sustainability indicators: quality of life, leadership, resource allocation, natural world, and climate risk.
To be eligible, a project must be designed by a civil engineering team based in Massachusetts, completed within the past five years, and
- Support safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure
- Balance societal, environmental, and economic impacts while seeking opportunities for improvement.
- Minimize resource depletion and mitigate adverse effects.
The BSCES Committee on Sustainability solicits nominations for this award during the first quarter of the calendar year and submits nominees for the BSCES Board of Government’s consideration. The award is presented at the BSCES Annual Awards Celebration; held in June.
The 2025 Large Sustainability in Civil Engineering award recipient was Stantec for the Spring Hill Sewer Separation Project. The 2025 Small Sustainability in Civil Engineering award recipient was SLR Consulting for the Monatiquot River Restoration Project.
