The Charles C. Ladd memorial fund was established in 2015 in recognition of Professor Ladd’s accomplishments as a gifted educator and innovative researcher on the behavior of soils. He was internationally sought after as a consultant working on large, complex and difficult projects. He was actively involved in the local professional community and served as president of BSCES in 1977.
The Ladd fund will be used to support a biennial lecture (odd years) presented by an eminent academic or practitioner. The specific lecture topic will be decided by the lecturer; but the scope of the lecture should be related to soil behavior and construction on soft ground with an emphasis on practical topics with engineering relevance and/or case studies. Topics examples may include: soil behavior and design applications, site characterization from in situ and laboratory testing, stage construction, instrumentation, and ground improvement.
Currently, the Geo Institute Boston Chapter and the Ladd Committee oversee the use of the fund to ensure it is utilized for its intended purpose.
