Advocacy

BSCES volunteers work with local, state, and national officials to promote legislation and regulations aligned with BSCES and ASCE policy positions to positively affect the civil engineering profession and our infrastructure.

These efforts include outreach to better inform the public of current and anticipated needs. A BSCES member also serves as a staff member to the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Transportation as part of the Legislative Fellow program. Major advocacy efforts include support of the Highway Trust Fund, the Water Resources Development Act, continuing education requirements for Professional Engineers, Massachusetts Dam Rehabilitation and Repair Act, and Massachusetts Comprehensive Adaption Management Plan in Response to Climate Change. Advocacy efforts are overseen by the Government Affairs and Professional Practice Committee.
