Legislative Fellow Fund

The Massachusetts Legislature acts on legislation impacting the built environment and public investment in civil infrastructure.  Since establishment of the BSCES Legislative Fellowship in 2001, BSCES Legislative Fellows have provided technical civil engineering resources to the Massachusetts Legislature (Massachusetts House of Representatives and State Senate) as lawmakers and their staffs formulate public policy and shape legislation impacting the Commonwealth's built environment and infrastructure.  The Legislative Fellowship Program is not a lobbying effort for the civil engineering societies nor is the Legislative Fellow a lobbyist.

Currently, BSCES provides an annual stipend of $10,000 to support the Legislative Fellow, who typically takes a twelve to eighteen month leave of absence from his/her employer to participate in the program. It is the goal of BSCES to select Legislative Fellows at mid-career; those with engineering and project management experience to effectively advise the Legislature on technical engineering issues and to help craft legislation; and with time left in their careers to use the experience and knowledge they gain as Legislative Fellow to the benefit of the Society and the civil engineering profession.

It is the goal of BSCES to increase support the BSCES Legislative Fellow and to fund the Legislative Fellowship in perpetuity.  To that end, the Board will solicit contributions from benefactors, ASCE, other professional engineering societies, and other sources to endow the Legislative Fellow Fund for the purpose of increasing the stipend.  Further, the Board of Government shall dedicate proceeds of certain BSCES events to the Legislative Fellow Fund.

The Board of Government hereby establishes the Legislative Fellow Fund, an unrestricted BSCES fund established to manage contributions of funds for support of the BSCES Legislative Fellow in perpetuity.
