Nominating Committee

MISSION

Prepare a slate of officers and members of the nominating committee for the section in accordance with the constitution and bylaws and, whenever possible, recommend to the president an individual for a one-year appointment to the position of assistant treasurer.  This committee also makes recommendations for appointees to complete an individual's term if/when vacancies develop within the Board of Government.

The committee makes recommendations for national offices and committees at the time vacancies develop, as well as recommends and prepares applications (as required) for individuals for ASCE and BSCES Honorary Membership.

STRUCTURE

The committee consists of the three most recent past presidents and six elected members.  Three of the six members are elected annually for two-year terms.  The chairperson is the senior past president and the vice chairperson is the second most senior past president. A clerk may be appointed at the chair's discretion. The Nominating Committee maintains a document entitled, “Nominating Committee's Operations Manual.” It is the responsibility of the chair to see that this document is updated annually (kept in Working File section of the Committees web page).

MEETINGS

The committee meets approximately four times a year.  The first meeting is normally held within 1-1/2 months after the section Annual Meeting.  The final meeting for the selection of the annual section slate of officers is normally held at least 3-1/2 months prior to the Annual Meeting.

PROCEDURES

The committee is required by the Bylaws to submit the annual slate of nominations to the secretary not later than 10 weeks prior to the Annual Meeting.

The slate of nominations consists of one candidate for the Section president, president-elect, senior vice presidents (2), vice presidents (2), secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer and any other vacancies in office.  Six candidates are also nominated yearly for the three positions to be filled on the Nominating Committee.

The limit on the number of nominations for BSCES Honorary Membership is 1 per 1,500 members.

Since applications for ASCE Honorary Membership are due each fall, they must be started by one committee and finished the following year.

FINANCIAL

The committee has no budget and neither receives nor disburses funds.
