Membership Committee

MISSION

To increase National and Section membership.  The committee is charged with encouraging individuals, especially civil engineers, to become affiliated with ASCE and the Boston Section.  Additionally, the committee is charge with encouraging current members to retain their membership.

STRUCTURE

The committee consists of a chairperson (selected by the president), an assigned BSCES senior vice president or vice president, technical group representatives and interested BSCES members.

 

New members can join the committee by volunteering through the Committee Chairperson or the BSCES Board of Government.

MEETINGS

Meetings are typically held monthly, or as needed to perform the committee's functions.

CHARGE

Establish and implement initiatives to foster new members and retain current members.

 

Encourage membership by college students who are soon to graduate, as well as recent college graduates.

 

Encourage membership by non-subscribing ASCE members who reside within the Section area, ASCE members who have chosen not to renew their membership (delinquent status) or civil engineers within the district who are non-ASCE members.

 

Encourage membership by other interested individuals who want to become Affiliate Members

 

Encourage current members to remain members.

 

Prepare periodic "New Member Update" for BSCESNews with names of new members.

 

Advise the Board on issues pertaining to membership.

 

In addition, committee members may be assigned to attend scheduled BSCES meetings to distribute membership literature.  At these events, membership materials are typically placed on the registration table.

FINANCIAL

Expenses for promotional materials, incentive awards, printing and postage are included as a budgeted line item in the BSCES Operating Budget.
